Luxury Birmingham hotels for an indulgent weekend break

It may come as something of a surprise to some, but Birmingham is known as the Venice of the North with plenty of boutique lined canals, romantic rivers, world-class shopping and a host of luxury hotels.

Although not seen as a centre for luxury in the traditional sense, Birmingham offers some gorgeous hotels and in most cases at great value compared to similar 4 and 5 star hotels in other parts of the country.

And when you aren’t enjoying some fine dining in your sumptuous hotel restaurant or lounging in your free-standing bath, Birmingham has a wealth of activities and attractions plus great nightlife for you to explore with your girls or your significant other.

Hotel du Vin & Bistro Birmingham

Once a Victorian eye hospital built in 1884, the Hotel du Vin is one of Birmingham’s finest luxury hotels. Make the most of your stay by booking yourself in for Afternoon Tea, sampling the delicious cuisine in the bistro or lounging in the spa.

The spa is the perfect place to seclude yourself for a little R&R. Enjoy a host of therapeutic treatments all using ESPA products, then detox in the steam rooms before prepping for a night on the town in the nail bar and St Tropez tanning booth.

The rooms echo a classical design, with luxurious touches such as velvet upholstery, modern art, and extra-large beds clad in Egyptian cotton linens. Opt for a Deluxe Double and enjoy a signature free-standing bath, or splurge on an open-plan Deluxe Suite and enjoy a little extra space, plus a walk-in monsoon shower, and a roll-top bath.

Park Regis Birmingham

1/3

The tallest hotel in Birmingham’s brightly lit skyline and offering 253 rooms, this is a grand hotel on a large scale, but the modern and contemporary ambience serves to make it welcoming and friendly with more of a boutique feel.

One of our favourite features of this hotel is the Shakina Spa, which definitely deserves an hour or two of your time. Choose from a series of treatments, such as an age-defying facial, or a hot stone massage. There’s also a gym with a range of cardio equipment for you to work up a sweat, should you wish.

The hotel restaurant is an extravagant affair, with plenty of sparkle. Close your weekend in Birmingham with a Sunday carvery lunch, complete with tender beef cuts, fresh veg, Yorkshire puddings – the full works.
