What do you do with an old Soviet air hanger you no longer have any use for? Well you turn it into a water park of course!
That’s right, grab your bathing suit and head to Tropical Islands for 66,000 sqm of water park, all within an enclosed space that remains at a steady 26 degrees year round. The space features the world’s largest indoor rainforest, a lagoon, a tropical sea (3x larger than an Olympic swimming pool) and Germany’s highest water slide.
The park which is around 60km south of Berlin, also houses accommodation with 508 beds in bedrooms sleeping two or four people. There are Adventure and Premium Lodges available offering more luxury comfort. Or if you are looking to experience the island in all its glory you can camp in the rainforest inside tents that are fitted with mattresses, pillows and duvets.
The park can comfortably house up to 6000 people at once – to give you an idea of the size and scale of this magnificent place. Opened in 2016 is the new outdoor water-world area, our favourite feature is the Whitewater River with a jet stream on a length of 250 meters, making it one of most Germany’s unique adventures.
